FAQs
What is the purpose of a pin on the map?
A pin in the map means that menstruators can find and access period products where and when they need them. Reasons menstruators may need a period product range from simply being caught unprepared to systemic period poverty. At Period Pin we believe that period products should be accessible for whatever reason.
What does it mean to partner with Period Pin?
We partner with governments, menstrual equity groups, community based organizations and businesses that offer free period products and agree to appear on the map. We also partner with community based organizations that share the map within their community of menstruators.
A few ways we can partner:
- Partners can pin locations of free period products on the Period Pin map
- Partners can share the Period Pin map within their community of menstruators
- Partners can connect us with organizations that offer free period products
- Period Pin can boost the work partners are doing through our socials, newsletter and other comms to share great content
- Period Pin promote Partners’ product donation drives and menstrual-related events etc.
We are open to different ways of partnering so feel free to reach out with your ideas.
How can we promote our involvement in providing free period products to our community?
When we get a new partner, we’ll share the great news on our socials (Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn) and we love for you to share it too. We will also share a Partner Publicity Kit with resources so you can easily share your commitment to making period products accessible.
What do we have to do to be on the map? How long is the process to become a Period Pin partner?
Simply fill in the partnerships online form with the location(s) of free period products within your organization. Then we will add the pins to the map. It’s that easy!
Note: we create a pin for each location of menstrual products (washroom, front desk, utility room etc) within a partner organization so menstruators can easily find the location nearest them.
How much does it cost to be on the map?
Absolutely nothing. We’d welcome any support by buying us a coffee or two – or ten 😉
Can we limit who accesses our location?
Pin locations can be tagged as open to the public, or accessible to employees, customers, students, residents, etc.
Can we customize the information displayed about our location on the map?
The information is fairly customizable to your organization in terms of what period products are on offer, what type of locations, how and where the products can be found, who the location is open to, when the location is open. If there is any other information you feel should appear on the map, please reach out to us.
How can we update our information if there are changes to our offerings or location details?
We will check in with you every few months, however if you have any updates to the existing pins, please use this form to let us know.
What types of period products are typically offered by the locations on the map?
Typically individual single-use pads and tampons. Some organizations may offer packs of pads or tampons. We recommend offering a range of product types and sizes for different menstruators needs. We also strongly encourage offering reusable products such as the menstrual cup, reusable pads and period underwear.
How do we regulate the number of products being taken? What if someone takes all the products?
In short, you don’t. If someone takes more than one product at a time, we believe that’s because they need them. Period.
Who is responsible for restocking the products and how often should we monitor?
For products in washrooms, we recommend that you build the period product restocking into the usual washroom cleaning schedule, just like you do with restocking toilet paper. For other locations, like the front desk or storage closet, once a day or one a week depending on how many menstruators are accessing the products.
We do not offer any free products at this time but would like to in the future. How should we proceed?
We work closely with the Period Positive Workplace movement to get more free period products into workplace washrooms across Canada. They can support you in getting started with putting period products in your organization so let us know if you would like an introduction.
Can we get free products from you for our organization?
Unfortunately, we can’t supply you with free products, however, we work with various menstrual equity groups who distribute donated period products or can provide period products at a significant discount to community-based organisations. Feel free to reach out to us for more information.
What is the end goal of this initiative?
Ultimately, we would love to see free period products in every washroom so there was no need for a map to pinpoint locations. We have a way to go. ❣️
